The Publix grocery chain is test marketing a new meal assembly service using ready-to-cook ingredients.
Under the Apron’s banner, the service is being offered at a Florida supermarket where customers can register online to attend cooking classes and meal-assembly sessions.
Consumers will be able to come to a store of their choice, and using ready-to-cook ingredients and the professional kitchen facilities and equipment, build a host of customized meals for use within days at home, or freeze for later use.
An extension of the growing popularity of prepared meal offerings in US supermarkets, the meal assembly service combines the convenience of ready-to-use fresh ingredients and fully equipped facilities with the ability of shoppers to maintain a hands-on role in the preparation of family meals.
The supermarket chain will also offer complete meal assembly and customer pick-up for those wanting the assembled meals without participating in their preparation.
