An American firm has developed a shopping cart sanitising system that purifies the entire cart.

Wisconsin-based PureCart Systems is attracting great interest, particularly following a widely publicised University of Arizona study found that 21% of shopping carts had bodily fluids on the handles, and that carts were almost as dirty as public restrooms.

More thorough than sanitising wipes, it is ideal for carriages that tote everything from leaky meat packages to leaky diapers. Carts pass through a mister that applies a peroxide-based solution approved for food contact. It kills more than 99% of bacteria and some 90% of viruses, while featuring a rust inhibitor and drying in two to five minutes.
