Wal-Mart Stores’ board of directors has nominated Aida Alvarez and James Cash for election to the board at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting 2 June 2006.
Aida Alvarez was administrator of the US Small Business Administration and a member of former US President Clinton’s Cabinet from 1997 to 2001.
Wal-Mart Stores chairman of the board Rob Walton said: “We are pleased that Aida and James have been nominated to join our company’s board. I believe their insight and years of experience will be extremely valuable to our company. Aida has had a distinguished career in government and the banking sector, and James is widely regarded as an expert in business management.”
James Cash is a retired professor of Business Administration at Harvard University Business School, where he served from July 1976 to October 2003.
Current Wal-Mart board members José Villarreal, Paul Reason and John Opie will not stand for re-election at the meeting.
“We thank José Villarreal, Paul Reason and John Opie for their many years of service to the board,” Walton added. “We appreciate their outstanding leadership during their tenure as directors. Each has made a significant contribution to the work of the board, and the company will continue to benefit for many years from their insight and counsel.”
