Wal-Mart slashed the price of fresh and dry groceries just two days before Thanksgiving in a move designed to boost flagging US sales yesterday (21 November).

The world’s largest retailer is enticing customers with savings on a variety of grocery products, ranging from hors d’oeuvres and savoury meats to chocolates. This is the fifth in a series of price cuts on key holiday entertaining and gift items.  Wal-Mart said the price of many food items would be lowered by as much as 20%, while some items were discounted more heavily.

“The holiday season is about spending time with family and friends, and many of those gatherings are focused around food,” says Bruce Peterson, Wal-Mart Stores senior vice president for the perishable food division. “Wal-Mart wants to help our customers have the holiday meals and get-togethers they’ll remember at an affordable price.”
