US natural and organic retailer Whole Foods Market has announced that its founder and chief executive John Mackay will now share the post of CEO with Walter Robb.
Robb, who has been promoted to the position of co-CEO from his current role as co-COO, will join the board of directors with immediate effect.
AC Gallo, who has been co-COO with Robb since 2004, has been promoted to the post of president and will serve as the group’s sole COO.
Mackay said that the management shuffle would “strengthen” Whole Foods’ leadership team for “many years to come”.
However, Mackay has downplayed the suggestion that he was scaling back his involvement at the company.
“We believe the best is yet to come for Whole Foods Market and want to work together to see our collective vision realised,” he said.
