As the number of confirmed anthrax attacks increase, Americans are getting ever more jittery. According to Xcelerator Life Sciences Funds Group, bananas are already being genetically modified for use in immunization against strains of anthrax. The US public may warm to this unusual form of medication. Americans have already taken well to enhanced, nutraceutical food such as probiotic yogurt, spending over $30 billion on nutraceuticals last year, and have one of the most accepting attitudes to genetic modification. By 2005, the nutraceuticals market will have grown to over $43 billion, leaving plenty of room for less conventional, beneficial offerings.
