US supermarket chain BI-LO has recalled a batch of potato salad products after listeria bacteria were found in routine testing.


Vince’s Famous Southern Style Potato Salad, distributed through BI-LO supermarkets, has been removed from sale after a routine sample taken by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture from a BI-LO store at in Chattanooga revealed a positive reading for listeria.


Listeria bacteria can cause sickness and can be particularly serious in infants, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with a weak immune system. The company said no cases of illness related to the product have been reported.


The recalled products are 16-ounce containers of Vince’s Famous Southern Style Potato Salad with an expiration date of 18 April 2004.
