Bridgford Foods, a US producer of frozen dough, microwaveable sandwiches, dry sausages and processed meats has reported sales for the first quarter ended 21 January 2005 of $33.591m, a decrease of 4.9% compared to sales in the first quarter of the previous year of $35.322m.
The company incurred a net loss of $196,000 in the first quarter of 2005 versus a loss of $138,000 in the same quarter of 2004.
Unit sales volume decreased between comparative quarters resulting in lower comparative sales. Higher unit selling prices partially offset the impact of lower unit sales volume. Continuing high costs for meat commodities and increases in fuel and pension benefits expense limited improvement in operating results.
