Joseph P. Micatrotto, chairman, President and CEO of Buca, announced Friday the promotions of Dan Skrypek to VP and controller and Randy Lopez to VP of field marketing.

“I couldn’t be happier with the promotion of these two professionals. They have had an important role in the growth of Buca to our current total of 69 locations,” said Micatrotto. “Dan and Randy have proven they each are ready to step into their new leadership roles and have shown great vision and understanding of the Buca di Beppo concept. They clearly embrace the spirit and culture of Buca and will spread our values as each takes on his new role.”

A three-year veteran with the immigrant Southern Italian concept, Skrypek joined Buca in 1999 prior to the company’s initial public offering as director of accounting and controller. Skrypek is responsible for the accounting function, including the management of regional accounting, treasury and accounts payable as well as external financial reporting. In his new role, Skrypek will add responsibilities and support of the company’s insurance program as well as investor and banking relations.

Prior to joining Buca, Skrypek worked as a certified public accountant with Deloitte and Touche, LLP. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

“Dan has done an excellent job since he joined the company three years ago. This is a very well deserved promotion,” said Greg Gadel, executive VP and CFO. “Dan has been a key player in the top level financial activities for the company, including our IPO, secondary offering and the PIPE offering. He leads an exceptional team that keenly monitors the day-to-day financial health of Buca.”

A 21-year veteran of the restaurant industry, Lopez joined Buca in 1999 as director of marketing. As vice president of field marketing, Lopez will supervise all field marketing functions and activities, specifically working to ensure seamless marketing, advertising and promotional plans across the company. He will lend his expertise to establishing and building the Buca di Beppo brand and image in new and existing markets and driving traffic and sales in the restaurants. Lopez will continue to serve as the primary marketing liaison for restaurants in the Western region.

Prior to joining Buca, Lopez worked for Arnold Palmer Golf Management Co as director of marketing and sales. Before that, he served as marketing manager for Main Street and Main, a franchisee of TGI Friday’s restaurants.

“As we continue to grow, Randy will lead the field marketing team as they work to communicate the Buca di Beppo brand to new communities and foster a consistent marketing dialog with our operators,” said Lane Schmiesing, senior VP of marketing. “Randy comes from an operations background, so he understands the challenges associated with implementing marketing initiatives. Randy’s new role is specifically focused on supporting and nurturing the marketing efforts in the field.”

“Dan and Randy exemplify the breadth of talent we have as an organization in each department. By attracting quality, experienced individuals from outside our organization and by promoting from within the famiglia, we ensure the vitality of Buca, Inc.,” said Micatrotto.

“As we look to the growth we have scheduled in 2002 and beyond, the promotions of these leaders are a classic example of how we’ll meet the need for professional personnel.”

Minneapolis-based Buca is a public company headquartered that owns and operates the 69-strong chain of Buca di Beppo restaurants.
