The US Corn Refiners Association (CRA) has retained Creative Response Concepts (CRC) to help it defend itself against claims a corn-based sweetener has been a major contributor to rising obesity levels in the US.

It has been claimed that high fructose corn syrup, a sweetener used in food and soft drinks, is a major cause of weight gain in the US, where its use is widespread.

The CRA has appointed media relations firm CRC to help it argue its case, reported PR Week. The company says it will argue that other countries such as Mexico and Russia also have rising obesity levels but do not use HFCS due to trade policies and tariffs.
