US meat processor Tyson Foods has announced that Robert L Peterson has resigned from the company’s board of directors.

Peterson has been a member of the board since 2001, when Tyson Foods acquired meat processor IBP, the company he led for more than 20 years as chairman and chief executive officer.

“Since his current health precludes him from attending upcoming board meetings, he has decided to step down effective immediately,” the company said in a statement.
