US cereal maker General Mills has announced that it is to unveil a portfolio of products aimed at consumers following reduced- or low-carb diets.

“Research shows that nearly 70% of consumers are monitoring their carb intake,” said Gayle Fuguitt, General Mills’ vice president of market research. “Whether they are on a lower-carb diet or just watching the amount of carbs they eat, we know they want lower-carb options that are convenient and that taste good.”

The company said it has reformulated some its products to fit a low-carb lifestyle, and added a few new low-carb offerings.

General Mills said the reduced-carb products include 8th Continent Light Soymilk, which has 50% fewer carbohydrates and 25% fewer calories than skim milk. The company will also launch Betty Crocker Carb Monitor Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Betty Crocker Carb Monitor baking mixes, Hamburger Helper Carb Monitor Cheeseburger Macaroni, Pillsbury Carb Monitor Frozen Dinner Rolls, Progresso Carb Monitor Soups, Total Protein cereal, Yoplait Ultra reduced-carb yoghurt, and Momentum low-carb snack bars.
