Rick Peyser, Director of Public Relations for Green Mountain Coffee, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR), has been elected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the world’s largest coffee trade organization. The elections preceded the annual SCAA national conference, recently held in Miami.

Peyser is known within the specialty coffee industry for his deep and long-standing commitment to issues of sustainability, as well as for his knowledge about high-quality coffees and the coffee industry. As a member of the organization’s Environment Committee, he helped organize the SCAA’s 1998 and 2000 Sustainable Coffee Conferences in Denver and San Francisco, respectively, and is active on the SCAA’s Fair Trade Task Force. At the recent SCAA national conference, Peyser gave two presentations that shared Green Mountain Coffee’s experience as one of the first coffee roasters to embrace Fair Trade coffees.

Peyser also is the newly elected President of Coffee Kids, a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life in coffee growing communities through programs based in self-sufficiency. Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Vermont/Honduran Chapter of Partners of the Americas where he has participated in the Farmer-to-Farmer coffee project in Honduras. He also is on the Board of Directors of Audubon Vermont.

Peyser joined Green Mountain Coffee as Mail Order Marketing Director in 1987, and has been Director of Public Relations since 1994. Since then, he has become fluent in Spanish in order to better understand and work more effectively with coffee cooperatives and their members. Peyser regularly travels to coffee producing countries to visit coffee producers and Coffee Kids’ community projects. Taking advantage of Green Mountain Coffee’s CAFE(SM) (Community Action for Employees) Program, and on his own time, he also has done volunteer work in Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico.

In addition to his public relations responsibilities at Green Mountain Coffee, Peyser serves on several of the Company’s cross functional teams including the Environmental Committee; the Social Responsibility Steering Committee; and the Coffee Team, which addresses coffee issues from tree to cup.
