Today at the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting, Dr. Guy Miller spoke about the new Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act and supported measures requiring stricter testing and tighter regulation of food products in this country. As a key member of the panel-based forum, Functional Foods Opportunities: Searching for Global Technologies, Dr. Miller emphasized that moving forward, safety and efficacy data will be key for the development of successful nutraceutical products and indeed, for the sustainability of the industry as a whole.
There is a growing consumer demand for nutritional supplements, but in the U.S., these products and their claims aren’t based on rigorous science. Galileo Laboratories was founded in 1997, expressly to discover and develop evidence-based nutritional products and answer the question about how these products really work. Dr. Miller’s goal and that of Galileo Laboratories is to provide industry partners and ultimately consumers with products that are scientifically proven to be safe and effective.
