In response to confirmation by the full U.S. Senate on September 26 of Elsa Murano, Ph.D. as Under Secretary of Food Safety of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Kelly Johnston, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications for the National Food Processors Association (NFPA), made the following comments:

“NFPA applauds the action by the U.S. Senate to confirm Dr. Murano to this important food safety position. Dr. Murano is richly qualified to lead USDA’s food safety activities. She brings with her to this position strong academic credentials and a career-long focus on food safety.
“NFPA has long had a strong relationship with USDA on issues involving food safety. We look forward to working closely with Dr. Murano, and to continuing the cooperative efforts between the food industry and government to further ensure the safety of our nation’s food supply.”
