Potential agenda items for the 34th session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives and Contaminants (CCFAC), which is due to take place meet 11-15 March 2002 in Rotterdam, will be discussed at a public meeting on 4 February 2002.


The meeting, which will take place on Monday 4 February 2002 in Conference Room 1409, Federal Office Building 8, Food and Drug Administration, 200 C Street, SW, Washington DC, is being co-sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Health and Human Services.


The CCFAC establishes or endorses maximum or guideline levels for individual food additives, for contaminants and for naturally occurring toxicants in foodstuffs and animal feed.


In addition, the Committee prepares priority lists of food additives and contaminants for toxicological evaluation by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives; recommends specifications of identity and purity for food additives for adoption by the Commission; considers methods of analysis for the determination of food additives and contaminants in food; and considers and elaborates standards or codes for related subjects such as labeling of food additives when sold as such, and food irradiation.
