US grocery retailer Safeway has announced that Bruce Everette, executive vice president, who has been responsible for leading the Dominick’s division since September 2004, will be returning to the company’s headquarters to take on broader retail responsibilities.


He will continue to be one of the company’s top five executive officers and a member of the corporate real estate committee. His successor will be Don Keprta, who has been serving as vice president, retail support at Dominick’s since March 2005.


Keprta began his career in food retailing over 35 years ago with Lucky Stores where he took on increasing responsibility, ultimately acting as executive vice president and general manager of Lucky Stores in Northern California. After the acquisition by Albertson’s, he served as the Northern California region president for Albertson’s, overseeing approximately 200 stores. Subsequently, he served as senior vice president, retail for Andronico’s Markets in the Bay Area, before joining Safeway in February 2005.
