— Summer won’t be the only thing muy caliente this season as backyard chefs heat up their grills for Mexican taquitos.

Taquitos consist of a baked corn tortilla rolled around a mouth-watering filling and then fried. The taquitos are immediately frozen after they are made so that you know the ingredients will stay fresh until they are ready to grill. Taquitos can be cooked in just minutes, serving as an appetizer or a complement to the main meal. Add a Mexican guacamole dip or salsa sauce, and your summer barbecue or tailgate party is well on its way to sizzlin’ success.

Delimex, a leading producer and distributor of frozen Mexican foods, makes five different varieties of taquito readily available in the frozen food section of the grocery store. In fact, the Delimex shredded beef taquitos and chicken taquitos are the number one and number two frozen Mexican foods nationwide. Other great taquito tastes include 3-cheese, taco beef with cheddar, and pepperoni pizza.

How to Grill a Taquito

Always preheat the barbecue before cooking taquitos. Set all of the burners of your gas grill on high, or light your charcoal and close the lid. Pre-heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until the thermometer registers 500 degrees F-550 degrees F (260 degrees C-288 degrees C).

Frozen taquitos can be grilled directly from the package. Grill 5 to 6 minutes, turning during cooking time, just as you would grill a hot dog. To avoid tearing the outside of the taquito and losing moisture or fillings, use tongs or a spatula rather than a fork for turning and handling.

You Can Also Grill Wrapidos

Frozen Wrapidos, flour tortillas wrapped around zesty fillings, can also be easily grilled, requiring a slightly longer cooking time of 8-10 minutes. Grilled taquitos and Wrapidos are excellent by themselves, or you can perk up your grilled taquito experience with dips and sauces. Nothing is easier or tastier than grilled taquitos and Wrapidos with bowls of ready-made bean and guacamole dips from your grocery store. With minimal effort, you can make your own favorite sauces and dips for mixing and matching Mexican flavors. Whether you like sauces mild or four-alarm hot, grilled taquitos and Wrapidos are the perfect summer barbecue adventure.
