Tasty Baking’s official company mascot, Kirbee the Krimpet, has been single since his inception in 1998. However the Philadelphia firm is running a nationwide competition for children to come up with a mate for Kirbee.
Gary G. Kyle, VP of marketing and national sales, said that the nationwide search to find “that special someone” for Kirbee starts today [Thursday] and kids between the ages of six and 12 are being encouraged to base the new mascot around the company’s most popular snack cake, the Kandy Kake.
Kyle explained: “When we originally decided to choose a mascot we held a contest for kids, and asked them to identify one of our snack cakes as a potential design, then give us their suggestions for a name, hence, Kirbee the Krimpet was born.
“We had such fun doing the contest, and hearing from so many young people, that we decided to do it again. Also, our current mascot has been so positively received in the marketplace, that we thought having another one would be a good idea.”
Kids are being encouraged to enter the competition via post, fax or email.
