On behalf of its franchise family, Tim Hortons is donating $1 million (CDN) to the Canadian Red Cross USA Appeal to help with relief and recovery efforts in the United States.
“The horrific events of September 11th have touched all of us, and our franchisees really wanted to find a way to help the children and families who are most directly affected,” said Paul House, President and Chief Operating Officer, The TDL Group Ltd. (operators of Tim Hortons). “This donation will be given directly to the Canadian Red Cross, but will be specifically earmarked for the USA Appeal. The Red Cross organizations are providing care and funding directly to victims and their families as they struggle through this extremely difficult time.”

“I am also very proud of the spontaneous response exhibited during this time of crisis by so many of our individual store owners and staff,” he added. Some of these contributions included providing bus transportation and Tim Hortons product to stranded travellers, flight personnel, law officials, hostels and emergency centres, as well as juice and Timbits to blood donor clinics in the U.S. and Canada. “Some of our field operations staff in Atlantic Canada even opened their homes to stranded families from overseas for several days,” he added.
Tim Hortons is Canada’s largest coffee and baked goods chain with more than 1,900 stores across the country, and over 125 stores in the United States, located mainly in the Buffalo, New York; Detroit, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio areas.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is providing lifesaving assistance in the form of immediate disaster mass care and blood to victims and emergency workers in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania following the incomprehensible attacks of September 11. The Red Cross will stay with these people as this tragedy unfolds. The Red Cross has been on the scene from the beginning providing disaster support in the form of food, shelter and mental health counseling to all individuals affected.
