US fastfood giant Wendy’s International has reported a rise in preliminary July US same-store sales, both at company and franchise restaurants.

The company reported a 3.9% increase in July same-store sales at Wendy’s US company restaurants, compared to a 2.1% decline in July 2003. July same-store sales at Wendy’s US franchise restaurants rose 2.0-2.3%, compared to a decline of 2.0% in July 2003.

July same-store sales at the company’s Tim Hortons Canada operations rose 7.9-8.0%, while same-store sales at Tim Hortons US operations rose 11.0%.

“Tim Hortons continued to produce outstanding sales in Canada and even stronger results in the US,” said chairman and chief executive officer Jack Schuessler.

Tim Hortons featured its Strawberry themed promotion in July, including a new strawberry chocolate tart, strawberry fritters and other baked goods. Wendy’s said the Tim Hortons chain will feature fresh-baked cookies and iced cappuccino during August.

During July, Wendy’s introduced a new Garden Sensations salad and plans to test several new products during the third quarter, including entree sized fruit platters, seasonal salads, Tuscan beef and grilled chicken platters, and combo meal substitutions.
