US fastfood companies Wendy’s International and Yum! Brands have posted improved sales in December, despite the discovery of a case of BSE, or mad cow disease, in the US during the month.

Wendy’s reported a 9% rise in same-store sales at US company-owned Wendy’s burger restaurants in the four weeks to 28 December, marking the third consecutive month of high single-digit sales growth. The company also backed its full-year earnings guidance, reported Reuters.

Meanwhile, Yum! Brands, which owns fastfood chains Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell, reported a 2% rise in combined same-store sales for December. The group’s Taco Bell and Pizza Hut recorded 4% sales gains, offsetting a 2% sales decline at KFC.
