US retailer Winn-Dixie Stores has announced that Bennett L. Nussbaum has been appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Winn-Dixie said Nussbaum succeeds Richard P. McCook, who has resigned, effective immediately, after 20 years with the company.

Nussbaum most recently served as executive vice president and CFO of fastfood giant Burger King.

Winn-Dixie, which operates more than 1,000 stores in the US, recently posted an unexpected net loss of US$79.5m, or 57 cents per share, for the second quarter to 7 January, compared to a year-earlier net profit of $91.4m, or 65 cents per share.

Winn-Dixie is now facing investor lawsuits alleging that the company failed to disclose financial problems.
