48% of American employers are offering healthier fare on cafeteria menus, according to a new survey that found more workplace cafeterias serving up healthier food choices, even catering to low-carb, low-fat, and vegetarian diets.


With US health insurance costs recording annual double-digit percentage increases in recent years, it is estimated obesity costs American companies over $12bn annually. Corporations are increasingly making eating right more convenient for workers, offering gourmet salads, vegetarian stations, and offering customer driven menus.


The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions survey also found 8% of US companies are also adding healthier options in vending machines, all with the goal of trimming waistlines, and bottom lines.
