The Vietnamese capital city, Hanoi, has declared itself free of avian influenza.

The announcement yesterday [Thursday] nullified regulations imposed on the movement and trade of live poultry and poultry products in the city, reported the VNA news agency.

However, Hanoi warned that it was vital the city protect itself against a new outbreak of the virus by maintaining high standards of hygiene while poultry stocks are repopulated. Local authorities also cautioned agencies to issue penalties to any party violating the Veterinary Ordinance and the Government’s guidelines on trading and transporting live poultry and poultry products.
