Welsh yogurt manufacturer Llaeth Y Llan has announced the launch of a product line for children following the completion of a multimillion pound expansion project.

Llaeth Y Llan said a GBP1.5m (US$1.9m) finance package from HSBC bank, in addition to GBP700,000 from the Welsh government-backed Wales Economic Growth Fund, financed its new 2,500 sq ft production facility in Llannefydd, north Wales – on the family farm where the business started in 1985.

The company said the expansion had already led to the introduction of a “Llaeth Y Llan-branded multipack of smooth yogurts targeting the children’s lunchbox market”, which hits the shelves of Welsh supermarkets next month.

Managing director Owain Roberts said: “The year has already started very positively with Llaeth Y Llan products becoming increasingly available in shops across Wales and England, and we have also recently started supplying to supermarkets in the United Arab Emirates.”

“Securing funding from the Welsh Government and HSBC was critical for this project… It has all helped to contribute to the continuous growth we are achieving.
