The global food standards body Codex Alimentarius has drawn up new standards for dairy products for consultation, looking for comments (from governments) by 10 June.
These guidelines – as discussed by its committee on milk and milk products – include guidelines for evaporated skimmed milk-vegetable fat blends, sweetened condensed milk-vegetable fat blends, and draft revised standards for Cheddar, (Swiss) Danbo and whey cheeses.
The committee is also at an earlier stage in devising standards for fermented milks, minimum protein content in cheese and analysis/sampling methods for milk and milk products. Here comments are required by September 2005.
