World food standards body Codex Alimentarius has asked for comments on proposed revised draft standards for infant formula and cereal based foods for infants and young children, as well as proposed draft guidelines for vitamin and mineral supplements.
Comments have to be submitted by 30 May next year.
Meanwhile, Codex will be debating whether to have a separate standard for infant formula for special medical purposes. A committee on nutrition and foods for special dietary uses has already decided that the infant food standard shall be for food with a minimum of 25% cereal content.
