The price of chocolate is expected to rise in the autumn, adding further to the 56% hike already experienced by cocoa bean prices so far this year.

Experts have told Interfax that the cost of a tonne of cocoa beans has exceeded US$2,000 for the first time in the last 15 years.

Reasons for the massive increase have been given as increased demand and a drop in supplies from Cote d’Ivoire. Also, major international investors have been buying up large volumes of cocoa beans at low prices from the beginning of the year and are now speculating on the market.
