The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has released a new security standard, which food companies could insist is used along their entire supply chains, even if these are global.

The standard ISO/PAS 28000:2005 includes requirements enabling an organisation to establish, implement, maintain and improve complete security management systems, including, amongst others, financing, manufacturing, information management, packing, storing and transferring goods, protecting against threats such as terrorism, smuggling and piracy.

It can be used by small to large organisations, from goods producers, to logistics firms, consolidators, truckers, railroads, air carriers, marine terminal operators, ocean carriers, cargo/mode/customs agents, financial and information services, and buyers.
