Here are some of the new food product introductions registered by Mintel’s Global New Products Database this past month around the world.

Goose chips

Chicken is a fairly well known flavour for extruded potato snacks, so it is interesting to see another poultry variety join the sector. New in China from Cadina are smoked goose flavoured potato chips, packaged in a 105g plastic bag.

Sweet potato ice cream

We have come across many an unusual ice cream flavour in Asia over the years. These have included black bean, sweet corn, and rice. Now, sweet potato has appeared in the sector. New in Japan from Meiji Milk Products is a sweet potato ice bar shaped to resemble the potato itself. It is made using sweet potato paste with yellow sweet potato ice cream, and coated with a thin purple layer.

Alcoholic yoghurt

We have already reported on a number of interesting dairy-based alcoholic moves. These have included the launch of Xtra Mooood flavored milk drinks in Israel from Tara Dairies with a 2% ABV content, and Super Milch in Germany comprising a 5.5% ABV vodka milk shake drink. Now, it seems yoghurt is joining in this development. New in Japan from Kinmasu Shuzo is Gurusshu Yogurt, a 4.5% ABV drink made with a blend of pure rice wine and yoghurt.

Cheerios sweet snack

Claimed as being the “first and only sweet snack mix in Canada”, General Mills introduces Cheerios Snack Mix. The Honey Nut Crunch variety is a mixture of Honey Nut Cheerios, honey nut clusters, Wheat Chex, Corn Chex, windowpane pretzels, and round pretzels. This low fat snack contains no cholesterol and is sold in supermarkets.

Potato “milk”

Potatoes are the base ingredients of a new non-dairy milk alternative beverage being introduced by Tayo Foods in Canada. These Fortified Potato Beverages are free of cholesterol, fat, and lactose and are fortified with vitamin A, D and B6, among others. The easy-to-digest product is available in Vanilla Slide, Original, and Chocolate Groove flavours and can be found in health food stores.
