Ahold Delhaize has restored its Dutch online operations – including for Albert Heijn – following the cyber breach that hit the business earlier this month.

Customers can now order groceries from Albert Heijn online almost two weeks after the incident, which disrupted logistics and commercial platforms for nearly two weeks.

Orders can also be placed at the group’s specialist drinks retailer Gall & Gall.

The disruption began on 11 October, prompting Ahold Delhaize to shut down IT systems as a defensive measure. The precautionary outage disabled consumer websites, mobile apps and delivery fulfillment across Albert Heijn, Gall & Gall and drugstore chain Etos.

While brick-and-mortar outlets remained open throughout the incident, stores experienced problems, including outdated promotional pricing on electronic shelf labels and the temporary failure of digital loyalty card scanners.

In a statement issued today (23 October), the Albert Heijn chain confirmed online ordering had reopened to all consumer and commercial accounts. Delivery fleets have resumed service, initially operating at approximately one-third of standard logistics capacity.

Albert Heijn said it expects delivery availability and regular scheduled subscription slots to return to normal capacity by next Wednesday.

The retailer is compensating customers, issuing €10 ($11.08) in store credit to shoppers whose deliveries were cancelled or who were unable to use paid delivery subscriptions when the systems were down. Missed promotional discounts, loyalty stamps and reward points are being credited back to users.

In an incident in the Netherlands on the same weekend, French supermarket operators including Coopérative U, E. Leclerc and Groupement Mousquetaires were hit by cyberattacks targeting third-party refrigeration software supplied by Danfoss, forcing hundreds of stores to discard fresh products.
