UK-based, pan-European Baker & Baker has acquired Scottish free-from specialist Lazy Day Foods.

In a statement, Baker & Baker said the deal expands its presence "within the growing and specialist segment of ‘free-from’ baked goods”.

Founded in 2006, Lazy Day Foods operates one 26,500-square-foot production site in Harthill, situated between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The facility manufactures more than 70 permanent and seasonal lines that are free from gluten, milk, eggs, and nuts sold under the namesake brand.

It supplies branded and private-label cakes, biscuits and traybakes to UK retailers and foodservice operators, according to the statement.

Baker & Baker said it will retain the Lazy Day Foods brand and support its expansion in international markets through its own European footprint.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The group told Just Food Lazy Day Foods generated a turnover of £14.3m for the year ending 5 April 2026, while Baker & Baker posted group revenue of €624.2m in its 2025 financial accounts.

The purchase marks Baker & Baker’s first manufacturing facility in Scotland, expanding its UK production network to five locations.

Baker & Baker employs 2,650 staff across the group's European factories and offices now stands at 2,650, including around 190 at the Lazy Day Foods site.

CEO Matthew Acheson said: “We have strong expertise in gluten-free bakery via our Ashington site, and this acquisition supports our expansion into the adjacent category of ‘free-from’, which represents an exciting area of growth.”

Acheson added Baker & Baker is “firmly committed to maintaining the operation and employee base” at Harthill.

Lazy Day Foods was set up by food scientists Dr Sally Beattie and Emer Bustard, who co-owned the business with chairman David Kilshaw.

In a joint statement, the three shareholders said: “In Baker & Baker, we have found the ideal owner to take the business forward. They have the scale, expertise and international reach to bring Lazy Day to many more free-from shoppers.”
