Croatian baked goods producer Mlinar is investing in the expansion of its local factory producing savoury burek pastries.
The investment was disclosed in a statement yesterday (29 July) from Bosqar Invest, which took a majority stake in the baker last year.
Mlinar is putting €12m ($13.7m) into its Osijek plant, in a move that will double output at the site through the addition of a fully automated production line.
The capacity of the new line will match the combined capacity of the factory’s current four production lines, according to the Croatian investment company.
The company described the project as one of Mlinar’s “largest single investments in production capacity in recent years”.
According to the statement, the project is aimed at “further improving production efficiency, supply chain flexibility, and readiness for continued growth” in both current and future markets.
“It will also create the conditions for stronger export growth in international markets beyond the region where Mlinar already has an established sales presence.”
At the Osijek facility, Mlinar has added more than 230 jobs since 2021/2022.
"This investment is a natural continuation of our growth and a response to the sustained increase in demand for products in the burek category”, said Mladen Veber, the president of the management board of Mlinar.
It follows financing secured in December, when Mlinar bagged up to €50m in equity funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). That investment was also earmarked for expansion.
Mlinar supplies large retail chains, hospitality clients and the foodservice channel. It also exports to more than 17 markets.
The company runs five production facilities. It also operates a bakery retail network spanning Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2025, the group posted revenue of more than €197.2m, according to the statement.
Bosqar Invest completed the purchase of a majority holding in Mlinar in a deal worth about €100m. Under that transaction, Bosqar, together with existing shareholders of Panvita Group and Mlinar’s management team led by CEO Mladen Veber, acquired a 67% indirect stake in the bakery group.
