PepsiCo tries again with Quaker drinks in US

The launch follows PepsiCo’s decision in 2019 to end sales of its Quaker Oat Beverage drinks in the US less than a year after introducing the product.

PepsiCo is taking another run at selling Quaker beverages in the US with the launch of a protein-packed product.

In a statement yesterday (7 July), the company said its Quaker Oat Shake & Go drinks will be sold in a single-serve bottle containing a dry oat shake mix. Consumers can add cold milk, a milk alternative or water, before shaking and drinking “straight from the bottle”, it added.

The launch follows PepsiCo’s decision in 2019 to end sales of its Quaker Oat Beverage drinks in the US less than a year after introducing the product.

In the same year, the food and beverage group also discontinued its Quaker Oats breakfast drinks in the UK due to poor sales.

This time, PepsiCo is pitching Oat Shake & Go at consumers looking for a “convenient and nutritious option” for breakfast, lunch or snacking.

Each serving contains 16g of whole grains, 15g of protein and 3g of fibre. The protein content rises to 23g when prepared with 8oz of milk.

The dry powder does not require refrigeration and contains no artificial preservatives, flavours or added colours, PepsiCo added.

The company also stressed the product is not intended as a meal replacement, describing it instead as a “complement” to consumers’ routines.

Quaker Foods chief marketing officer James Wade said: “For nearly 150 years, Quaker has been a trusted authority on oats and a beloved household brand known for quality and nutritional expertise.

“The introduction of Quaker Oat Shake & Go helps reimagine the way our nutritious oats show up – bringing the power of protein, fibre and 100% whole grain oats into a delicious, drinkable format.”

The range is rolling out nationwide in two variants – Strawberry & Banana and Cinnamon Vanilla – starting this month.

PepsiCo said it will be stocked at major retailers and grocery chains in the US.
