Groups of milk farmers seriously disrupted the distribution process in western France on Thursday by using tractors to block road tankers on collections to farms. The action was in protest to recent cuts in milk prices.

Groups numbering between five and 30 protesters prevented tankers from making their rounds at several points across the region, which accounts for more than 50% of France’s milk production and employs around 50,000 producers.

A spokesman for the protesters said that outlets supplying all the main processors including Danone, Nova, Besnier and Senoble –  were being targeting as they were behind a 4% price cut applied in July.
