
PepsiCo is to open a business service centre in India later this year.
The centre, which will reportedly employ 2,500 people, will expand PepsiCo’s footprint in the Indian market, the company told just-food sister site just-drinks today (16 September.
According to a report in The Times of India, the Hyderabad hub will handle operations including consumer insights, marketing, HR, finance and supply chain.
“We have a long and proud history in India where we have operated locally for 30 years,” PepsiCo said in a statement. “We will officially open this new office later this year, and will continue to hire India’s high calibre talent to join our team.”
The Times of India said 2,500 people will be hired to work at the centre over the next three years. The facility reportedly will be PepsiCo’s largest outside of the US.
In July, the Lay’s crisps maker set out plans to set up a new snacks factory in India, part of an ambition to double the size of that side of its business in the country by 2022. Earlier this year, PepsiCo announced plans to install a new production line at its factory in the state of West Bengal.

In February, chief executive Ramon Laguarta, who replaced PepsiCo’s long-time CEO Indra Nooyi last year, revealed a multi-year “productivity” plan that included job losses and factory closures. Details on how many jobs would be lost, and which factories will close, were not disclosed.
First-half sales for PepsiCo were up 2% in results released in July. All divisions except one – Asia, Middle East & North Africa – posted increases.
