The Brecks Company, a vegan and vegetarian food manufacturer in the UK, has secured a “seven-figure” funding package from HSBC.

The firm, based in North Yorkshire in northern England, said the financing will be used to speed up its global growth plans.

Established in 1992, Selby-based Brecks initially produced cereals but now supplies plant-based ingredients, alongside vegetarian and vegan products to customers in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia.

It manufactures the Honey Monsters and Good Grain brands and also supplies retailers on an own-label basis.

Brecks recently created Plant & Bean, a joint venture with Thailand’s NR Instant Produce, as a dedicated plant-based company to manufacture meat-free mince, sausages, burgers and nuggets.

Brecks is currently developing an additional facility in Lincolnshire, in eastern England.

James Hirst, the company’s managing director, said: “Securing this funding from HSBC UK is a real milestone for Brecks and will support the future of the business as we approach our 30th anniversary.

“We’re looking to seize the opportunities in front of us at this time and the bank’s support will allow this to happen. Growth also allows us to create even more job opportunities in the UK and provide more of our sustainably-focused products around the world.”

Tom Sikora, relationship director for corporate banking at HSBC UK, said: “The Brecks Company operates in a market that has grown significantly in recent years and the business clearly has what it takes to compete on a global scale. We’re really pleased to be able to support them at a crucial time in their journey as a business.”
