B&G Foods has offloaded more brands to fellow US manufacturer McCall Farms as the company continues to streamline its portfolio and trim debt.

The transaction covers the B&M brand, known for baked beans and brown bread, alongside the Joan of Arc line of kidney, chili and other canned beans.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

In a statement, New Jersey-based B&G Foods said it plans to use the net proceeds from the deal to repay long-term debt.

As of 4 July, the company had $2.52bn in total debt, including $513.8m classified as current and $2.01bn in long-term debt.

Robert Mills, B&G Foods' president and CEO, said the move is “another step in our efforts to simplify our portfolio, focus on our core brands and strengthen our balance sheet”.

Mills added: “We remain focused on taking actions that support profitable growth and reduce leverage. We believe McCall Farms is the right owner for these brands going forward.”

The agreement marks the second transaction between the two companies in just over a year.

In August 2025, B&G Foods sold its US Le Sueur shelf-stable vegetable business – specialising in canned peas, green beans, and carrots – to McCall Farms for an undisclosed sum, with proceeds also directed toward debt repayment.

The latest sale follows a setback for B&G Foods earlier this month, when the group terminated an agreement to sell its Green Giant and Le Sueur Canadian operations to Nortera Foods after Canada’s Competition Bureau moved to block the deal on anti-trust concerns.

Nortera remains the primary co-manufacturer for Green Giant in Canada, while B&G Foods reviews alternative strategic options for that business.

In March, B&G Foods sold its US Green Giant frozen assets to Seneca Foods, having previously divested the brand's US shelf-stable division to the same buyer in 2023.

B&G Foods narrowed its net loss in the second quarter ended 4 July, although the company remained in the red.

B&G Foods’ net loss was $4m, down from a loss of $9.8m. Its net sales fell 9.7% year on year to $383.3m. Operating income rose 57% to $34.6m, despite the sales decline.
