Spanish snacks major Grupo Apex has moved to grow its presence in the country’s convenience market with the acquisition of a local distributor.
Apex, home to the Aspitos and Jumpers brands, has snapped up Zaragoza-based Industrias Marjo for an undisclosed sum.
In a statement, Apex said Industrias Marjo operates a sales network across northern and central Spain.
The company manages a range of approximately 4,000 product lines and supplies over 12,000 points of sale, Apex added.
“Bringing Marjo on board is a decisive step in our commitment to the impulse channel,” Apex CEO Santiago Sala said.
“It allows us to be closer to the point of sale, provide better service to our customers, and offer the market a more complete distribution solution – all while working hand-in-hand with our distributor network, which remains the cornerstone of our model.”
Apex, based in 70 kilometres north of Zaragoza in Ribaforada, manufactures salty snacks, nuts and potato chips.
The company, which runs 18 facilities across Spain and directly employs over 1,100 people, has an annual turnover of €180m ($200.6m). It sells products into more than 20 countries.
“Becoming part of Grupo Apex allows us to preserve everything that has brought us this far while taking a step forward: a wider product range, access to more channels and a promising future for our team,” Industrias Marjo CEO José Luis García said.
