Flavourtech Awards 2026 Andrew Craig Engineering Scholarship to Local Student
Digby Jones, a student from Griffith, New South Wales, Australia, has been awarded the prestigious Andrew Craig Engineering Scholarship, supporting his studies as he begins a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Wollongong in 2026.
Flavourtech’s engineering scholarship was established as part of an initiative to support students from the Griffith region of NSW. Its purpose is to invest in local talent and alleviate the financial barriers faced by those pursuing undergraduate engineering studies. The selection committee seeks out students who demonstrate leadership in their communities and show a strong commitment to using engineering as a tool to solve real-world problems.
The scholarship is named in honour of Flavourtech co-founder Andrew Craig, who helped develop Spinning Cone Column (SCC) technology in the late 1970s and later commercialised it from Griffith. This marked the beginning of the Flavourtech story, with many engineers settling in Griffith to help propel the company’s award-winning technologies onto the global stage.
Flavourtech’s general manager, Leon Skaliotis, commented: “Digby’s academic excellence, leadership and community involvement made him a standout recipient for 2026. We are pleased to support him with a financial contribution that will assist with accommodation and living expenses while he completes his degree.”
Digby has said that he is “extremely grateful for the opportunity this scholarship provides and believes it will help kickstart a successful degree and career as an engineer.”
A high-achieving student, Digby graduated with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 94.25 and achieved the top class ranking across all his Year 12 subjects — Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension, Physics, Economics, English Advanced and Business Studies. He believes these achievements reflect both his strong work ethic and commitment to learning.
Digby has long held a passion for science, mathematics and design, which inspired both his HSC success and his decision to pursue engineering at a tertiary level.
“I have always been passionate about STEM and look forward to applying the fundamentals of physics and mathematics to real-world engineering challenges,” he said.
He will begin his studies with a flexible first year, allowing him to explore different disciplines before selecting a major, with current interests in electrical, mechanical and mechatronic engineering.
Digby’s journey is a testament to the growing pool of talent emerging from Griffith, and this scholarship is sure to play an important role in furthering his goals in the field of engineering.
